Brandon Oda is San Francisco-bassed freelance photographer specializing in both landscapes and portrait photography. With a unique dual skill, he also creates his own photo editing software which puts him ahead of other photographers in his field. His love of photography developed over the course of his childhood and young adulthood after spending most of his time in Asia and abroad before settling in the U.S.

“Dark or evening photography offers a complete contrast to typical landscape imagery that other photographers do. The nightlife in Asia has greatly inspired how I bring the night to life with my camera,” said Oda.

After graduating from Taipei’s Junior Highschool, he attended Taipei’s English-based American school. Eventually, Oda came west and studied in Vancouver, Canada before settling in San Francisco. He originally started in programming and swapped over to freelance work to focus on photography, his true passion, which helped him develop his creative vision and gave him the tools to succeed in the photography business.

Oda travels frequently and takes photos for many international magazines and blogs. Recently he traveled to Thailand, where he spent time documenting both the natural and urban beauty of the country. Nightlife photographs were also taken to make a statement piece within his own portfolio as well.

Brandon says, “Hopping on a cross-country train for a business or pleasure trip is always the highlight of my job. Even my wife enjoys them since we take these together.”

When Oda is not working, he enjoys taking impromptu vacations with his wife, and occasionally visiting his mother’s side of the family in Osaka, Japan. Of course, the ability to travel stems from being a freelance creative.

Together, they enjoy exploring all that Europe has to offer, especially wine country. Recently they spent time in Germany and were able to document their many adventures on camera.

Wherever he goes, Brandon Oda takes his unique artistic vision. When Oda is not behind the camera, he enjoys travel and entertaining friends and family. He is also very interested in collecting cameras and home automation and has set up a “smart home.”

According to Brandon, “Work is not working when you love it. When traveling and photography are your passions, you go wherever your passions take you.”

In his portrait business, Oda frequently takes photos of models as well as friends and families. He has a unique approach to portraiture, showing each subject in a new way. He allows his camera to capture moments the naked eye can’t achieve and tells the stories of his subjects with pictures. Brandon Oda is an exciting up and coming creative in the world of photography.
